After a prolonged stay in the ICU, I was admitted to your telemetry floor, where I was met with a bright smile and a nurse eager to ensure I felt like I was her only patient. I know this wasn’t the case because my prolonged stay in the ICU was due to a lack of staffing on my next floor. My nurse came into the room bounding with energy over halfway through her shift and never let on that she was swamped. She took the time to use the whiteboard in the room, something I’d never seen done during prior admissions with family. When she said she’d be back in an hour or so, I just thought it was hypothetical, until she actually came back! Her positive demeanor and obvious dedication to her patients and the role of nursing truly stood out above all others involved in my care.
