Jaime was my nurse for outpatient surgery at Washakie Medical Center in Worland. She was the first person to greet us upon arrival, and quickly put us at ease with her kind manner.
In pre-op, she established a wonderful rapport with us, while at the same time reviewing in great detail the procedure, the risks, and expected outcomes. With great skill and care, she administered a nerve block in my lower leg, a very complex procedure that required coordination with the other members of the nursing staff, who obviously have great respect for her skill. At the same time, she kept us calm with her good humor and accommodations to our questions, concerns and our joking around.
My surgery, predicted at two hours, lasted five. In post-op, I was having severe pain issues. When it was determined that the nerve block was not fully effective, she very quickly and completely resolved my pain.
Due to the long period under anesthesia, I had a hard time in recovery, and she stayed until I was comfortable enough to be sent home. She was the last person on the outpatient surgery team to check on us, and we are sure she must have put in at least a 12 to 14-hour day in order to stay with us from the very start until the end of our day.
Perhaps the most touching and remarkable thing about her care was that she personally called me every day for four days after surgery, to check on my progress and see if I had any concerns. She gave me her personal phone number to call if I had problems or questions.
