No words can do her justice when describing how caring, hard-working, and compassionate Jaity is as a nurse and a person. As patient D.S. states "thank you for your positive energy and the sweet spirit you bring to everything you do." She has the most therapeutic and calming bedside manner. Jaity is the definition of role model and mentor through her practice and teaching towards fellow nurses and other colleagues. With her nine years of experience, Jaity is the go to nurse for any clinical question whether trivial or critical.

"It is an absolute privilege to work alongside Jaity." As Katie Fox CN II reflects on her time working with Jaity states, "She is the most compassionate and empathetic nurse that I have ever worked with. She never rushes with a patient; she is always thoroughly explaining every task at hand (medications, assessments, etc.). Whenever Jaity is on, it's a relief for me. I know I can ask her any type of question and she never makes me feel dumb. Being a new nurse on nights, if I am unsure about a patient's situation, Jaity will immediately drop what she is doing and assist me. It is heartwarming to see the magnitude of respect she has for her job, colleagues, and patients and their families. She is the definition of a phenomenal nurse and an absolute pleasure to be around. I don't think Jaity even has any idea the impact she has had on me as a nurse and person. I admire the degree of kindness and dedication that she puts into everything she does."

When thinking of Jaity's excellent nursing skills, several of the nurses recall her working with M.M, a 22 year-old neurology patient. She was one of his primary nurses, and he had come to our unit several times over the course of a year. One night he was readmitted to us from an outside hospital and Jaity, being his primary, took care of him that night. Jaity was shocked and appalled at the condition she had received him in. Paralyzed from the neck down, he had several pressure ulcers, skin tears/breakdown, and it was evident that his hygiene was neglected. Jaity ensured this was corrected; she had a bariatric bed ordered, she spent over an hour in his room giving him a full bed bath, providing appropriate oral care, and she tended to the skin breakdown applying dressings as needed. As a true patient advocate, she ensured that the LIP had a pain medication regimen in place and coordinated times with the PCT to ensure he was turned in a timely manner. Her biggest concern was his comfort and that left such an impression with everyone. On that night, even Jaity managed to somehow outdo herself; the depth of her care resonated within all of us.

Jaity's brilliance doesn't only speak to the nurses but to everyone around her. Our evening unit assistant Madeline Castilla states "I have worked a little over a year with Jaity and I have to say I always hear her speak about her patients in such a tender and caring way, it's almost as if each patient was a family member of hers. If anyone used an unkind word towards her patients she would defend them and make sure they are given the respect they deserve. She has a way of making a connection with each and everyone of them. One night she was working in the Neuro Observation Unit (NOU) and I walked in to deliver some meds as I looked over to the C bed I saw Jaity leaning over talking to her patient with a soothing, comforting voice and all I saw was this warm and caring nurse. The expression on her face when she looked at her patient explaining to her what she was going to do for her was priceless. When I see Jaity I see a nurse that truly found her calling, the way she takes the time to take care of each patient with dedication and concern lets you know that every patient is her number one patient. She takes the time to answer and address the concerns and questions the patients and family members may have. She always does a good job of reassuring them that she is available for them.

Jaity also stands out as a team player and is as good to her coworkers as she is to her patients. She will try to answer any questions that they may have. She shares her knowledge with those around her and she will assist and guide her co-workers in the best way she knows. I have yet to hear her say I can't' or I won't'".

Lisa Cintron, PCT, is currently in nursing school and has come to aspire to be a nurse much like Jaity. She shares "I have worked with Jaity for over five years; she is a very kind, positive and spiritual nurse. One day as I was working the day shift, I saw Jaity walking the halls and I asked her if she had an inservice that day, since she usually works nights. Jaity had explained to me that she came to see a patient off since she was being discharged. It was a patient that we had both grown very fond of T.L. I was not aware that she was leaving and when Jaity asked me to help her clean her up, I gladly obliged. Jaity had worked the night before, went home, slept for 4 hrs and made it back to the hospital to see the patient off. I know she was exhausted but that didn't matter to her. I commend Jaity for her passion in her job and the exceptional effort she gives to all the patients she comes across. Furthermore, aside from her passion, Jaity is a great teacher. She doesn't just tell you what needs to be done she takes the time to show you and explain why it needs to be done. I can only hope to be as good as a nurse as she has become."

Farial Bacchus CN II much like Lisa has come to highly respect and admire Jaity. She shares "I've always known Jaity to be an exemplary nurse, however having recently been trained by her in our Neuro Observation Unit (NOU), I had the privilege to see her craft unfold every night. Jaity is the kindest nurse I have ever met. Her immense patience and attention to detail along with her compassion and ability to see the brighter side of every situation makes her stand out.

Most recently while in the NOU, we received a patient with a brain hemorrhage. W.R., 77 year old male with an unknown primary, presented with decreased mental status. He was agitated, combative, impulsive, and lethargic at times. He was very challenging to assess and most of the night was noncompliant with his q1 hour neuro checks. I began to get frustrated assessing him. I asked Jaity if she would come in with me to do his next neuro check. She didn't hesitate at all. We walked into his room she addressed him by his first name and placed her hand on his shoulder and said to him in the gentlest voice "W, I'm going to ask you a few questions and then you can go back to resting okay?" He didn't reply. Being that Jaity's patience is unwavering, she continued to ask him questions over and over again until she retrieved an answer, always maintaining a calm demeanor. She took the time to explain everything we were doing before we did it despite his agitation and intermittent lethargy. The following night we had the same patient again. He was almost a completely different person, alert and oriented to himself and the place, and much less agitated. Jaity walked into his room with the brightest smile and said "WOW, We're so proud of you; you're doing so much better today!" The words seem so simple, but she was genuinely excited for him. She shared in his joy and that spoke volumes to me. Even when he was aggressive and agitated, it didn't derail her. She saw him as more than a patient; she remembered he was a father, a brother and a friend. She treated him like a human being regardless of his behavior towards us by showering him with true patience, doing everything we had to in order to ensure he was getting what he deserved.

One of Jaity's best assets is providing impressive individualized care for her patients, making her the nurse to remember. Neurosurgery patient H.S. states "she was my night nurse, wonderful, compassionate very patient and understanding of my pain. Made me feel like I was her only patient and she was very considerate to my wife as well. Great care!" Patient V.P says "Jaity has shown such an incredible amount of care and compassion for those that she cares for. She treats each person as an individual and she treats you like you are family. I can never properly express my deep gratitude".

Working in our NOU often times means working more closely with the advanced practice team than we would when on the floor. Having worked with Jaity since she began as a nurse on M7, our night NP Bernice Burford says "Jaity is one of our most experienced NOU trained RNs on M7. She is focused and dedicated; a true professional nurse at the bedside, delivering optimal care with every patient she interacts with. I always feel secure when she is in the NOU caring for our most critical patients. Jaity's assessment is complete and thorough, which allows us to recognize changes from a patient's baseline and intervene in a timely manner. She is aware of her strengths and weaknesses aiming to improve every chance she gets, always asking to explain the pathophysiology of disease processes as well as treatment modalities. She's currently pursuing a Master's in Nursing, and I know she will be a great asset to the realm of advanced nursing."

Everyone from her colleagues to the patients can't say enough about Jaity's exceptional nursing care. Orthopedic patient D.S. proclaims "her gentle warmth and kindness brought me great peace and comfort." Another patient who was touched by Jaity's warmth was M.G. who says "Jaity is an excellent human being. I have had several stays in the hospital in the last six years. I have never experienced such compassion from another human. The following words describe some of the qualities I experienced the night of March 6th to the morning of March 7th: loving, kind, warm, soft, sensitive, tender, responsive, considerate, receptive, tender hearted, helpful, affectionate, attentive, pleasant, supportive, understanding, reassuring, comforting.' She is truly an example of how an RN should and could be towards patients." Patient V.S. shares "Jaity has shown an incredible amount of care and compassion for the people she takes care of. Each person is an individual and she treats us like we're her family. I can't begin to fully express my deepest gratitude for each moment of my stay that with her help has made my recovery so much easier."

Mareshah Williams, CN II recalls, "during my time working with Jaity, she has demonstrated excellent preceptor and interpersonal skills. Even during the busy and frantic times on the unit, Jaity maintains her poise and professionalism. She exudes a compassion and empathy towards her patients which is truly exceptional."

The father-in-law of patient S.S states: "My son-in-law entered MSKCC via the UCC when he was greeted with great compassion by the busy nursing staff, and his transfer was expedited by a Dr. J, who was equally kind and reassuring. He was admitted late in the evening to the 7th floor nursing unit, greeted by Ms. Jaity, the nurse in charge. She deserves special commendation for her warmth, her reassuring manner and the attentiveness with which she cared for my son-in-law during his first frightening hours after transfer. After his stay at Mt. Sinai, he had low expectations, and Ms. Jaity, as MSKCC's "first responder" could not have been more professional and compassionate. She is an example of MSKCC and nursing at its best. Clone her!"
