Jaiwana L Jenkins, RN BSN
I would like to recognize Jaiwana Jenkins, RN, for her exceptional clinical judgment, quick thinking, and genuine compassion for her patients. Recently, Jaiwana demonstrated outstanding nursing care when she assessed a patient who had just come to the unit from PACU.
The patient exhibited signs of angioedema, and Jaiwana immediately recognized the severity of the patient’s symptoms and responded in a calm, confident manner. She performed a focused reassessment, quickly identifying the progression of swelling and changes in the patient’s airway status.
Her rapid intervention, clear communication, and knowledge of the appropriate emergency steps ensured that the patient received prompt treatment and escalation of care. Her actions were instrumental in preventing further deterioration. What stood out even more was Jaiwana’s dedication after the patient was transferred to the ICU.
Instead of simply moving on, she took the time to go downstairs to personally check on the patient and their family later that evening. That level of follow-through reflects her deep commitment not only to clinical excellence but also to treating patients like family. Jaiwana embodies what it means to be an extraordinary nurse, skilled, attentive, compassionate, and proactive.
Her actions that day truly made a difference in a patient's outcome, and she consistently demonstrates the heart of nursing in everything that she does.
