Jakalin made my post-labor experience so much better. I loved her funny personality. She made me feel so much more relaxed after giving birth. I especially loved her excitement when I told her I’d pooped – she gave me a high-five! Jakalin was constantly going the extra mile to make me more comfortable. Her no-nonsense but laid-back attitude was just what I needed in recovery. Unfortunately, my baby was in the NICU for my entire stay, so while I was optimistic, I started to feel the weight of leaving without my baby towards the end. Jakalin walked in on me crying on discharge day, much to my embarrassment, but she knew exactly how to read the room even joking with me, “You’re not a hugger, are you?” I am not a hugger and her asking me shows that she had taken the time to get to know me in those few days. I would like to nominate Jakalin Pickens for the DAISY Award because she is truly a caring and knowledgeable nurse who is invaluable to your hospital team.
