He did everything possible to make sure my mom was as comfortable as possible! He explained the procedure at great length and discussed what to expect after the procedure. Jake even made sure I had all of my questions answered.
My mother was scheduled to have a cardiac ablation for SVT. My mom has always been a medical "odd-ball" and always says that she doesn't deal well with procedures or various medications, so I was already nervous beyond belief for this procedure and so was she.
We were welcomed in Cath Holding and our assigned nurse was Jake - when I say that this man is an exceptional nurse, I mean it! He started off our visit by explaining what to expect, including the need to obtain an IV and lab work, and he had someone else come and do her EKG so that she would feel more comfortable having a female in the room. He did everything possible to make sure my mom was as comfortable as possible! He explained the procedure at great length and discussed what to expect after the procedure. Jake even made sure I had all of my questions answered. After the procedure, my mom was having issues with headaches and significant nausea. Jake went out of his way to make her a fresh pot of coffee and even made her peanut butter crackers without us even asking.
During this time, my father was in the waiting room and Jake even made sure to ask us if he needed anything as well. He worked collaboratively with the doctor to get her headache and nausea under control and kept a constant eye on her bilateral groin puncture sites while providing detailed education to my mom on why this was important.
My mom actually asked that I nominate Jake for this award and, honestly, I was way ahead of her because I don't know anyone who deserves it more. I have worked at Winchester Medical Center for the last 10 years and have met many wonderful nurses, but Jake is one of those nurses that you can only aspire to and hope to be in your nursing care... one of the best and a true role model! He showed so much compassion and treated us just like family. Words will never express how grateful we are for the care Jake provided.
Thank you so much, Jake. You made a world of difference!
Note: This is Jake's 2nd DAISY Award!
