Jake is such a special person to our hospital, and I know our patients feel the same. Recently, Jake went above and beyond as ICU responded to a Code Stroke. The patient was extremely anxious and scared from her acute neurological symptoms, but Jake remained kind and comforting. Our patient required multiple CT scans, which had her terrified to the point of crying. She felt unsafe being alone in the scanner. Jake “leaded up” so he could stay in the CT scanner with the patient and hold her hand. He stood in the scanner for 20 minutes talking with the patient and easing her worries. Jake is very knowledgeable and explained the testing and rationale to ensure she understood her care. The patient reported she felt safe and comfortable with Jake. She was touched by his compassion and the time he took for her. Jake is an exceptional nurse and coworker. This is just one example of thousands where he has gone that extra mile to connect with the patients. His sweet, personable attitude makes him an approachable resource for nursing, patients, and families.
