I would like to take a moment to recognize M4 RN Jake Difronzo for his outstanding clinical judgment, communication, and patient advocacy. Jake was caring for my consult patient, a post-op day 4 GYN surgery patient under the care of an OBGYN, who has been experiencing a post-operative ileus. On this day, the patient began to report worsening abdominal pain, developing tachycardia, and showed increased abdominal distension. Jake promptly recognized the concerning change in her condition and tiger texted both the surgeon resident and me to express his clinical concerns. His proactive escalation of care led to immediate medical attention, which ultimately revealed that the patient had developed severe bowel ischemia that required urgent surgical intervention.  Jake's ability to recognize subtle signs of deterioration and his willingness to speak up truly made a difference in this patient's outcome. His profession, attentiveness, and communication exemplify the highest standards of nursing care.
