What I appreciated most about Jake's approach to care was his problem-solving skills and trust in his instincts.
My mother was at Penn Hospital for a couple of weeks after complicated heart and lung issues, which eventually led to in-home hospice care. Jake took care of my mother during the first few days in the hospital. He was incredibly helpful in keeping her spirits up and making sure she was well cared for. Even when things were really hectic, he constantly checked in, and even if he couldn't help right away, he was great at saying - I'm going to do this one thing, and then I will be back. This really helped keep her calm as she often thought that no one was there and would start to panic. What I appreciated most about Jake's approach to care was his problem-solving skills and trust in his instincts. There were several times when others tried to administer medication for constipation, fluid retention, etc. He would say - let me try to get her up and moving and we won't need that - and he was right every time! She was on so many different medications, not adding more to the mix was really helpful. He truly puts patients first and will do anything in his control to help them. There are a lot of good nurses at Penn (we are frequent flyers there), and Jake definitely stands out. I'm so very grateful that the stars aligned, and we were lucky enough to have Jake taking care of our mother.
