Jake Scheuermann demonstrated commitment to excellence and left the greatest impact on me, as the spouse of the patient in the Neuro Critical Care unit for 22 days. I was there to see firsthand around the clock quality care the nurses gave, but Jake just gave that extra that makes him stand out to me. Jake had great patience with my husband. My husband would need care throughout the night and Jake was there with the same kind tone and understanding each time. He would do the hourly assessments and never seemed to get tired of all the effort it took to make sure my husband was getting better. He made sure I understood everything that was going on throughout the process of someone with a brain injury. I truly believe that Jake cared about my husband. His passion for his job and patience shined through no matter what hour of the night, no matter how many times he had to come in to put the oxygen back on or put my husband's leg back in the bed, fix his sheets, clean him up, or pull him higher in the bed so he could be more comfortable. Jake did whatever it took to keep my husband as relaxed and content as possible. The teamwork across all the nurses in this unit was unbelievable. Jake would let my husband know exactly what he was doing anytime he was in the room. He would also let him know what medication he was administering, how it would help him, and what the side effects were. He would make sure that my husband's pillows were where he liked them, stay with him until he seemed to be most comfortable, and always ask if there was anything he could get for me. He chatted briefly about football and sports once he learned of my husband's interests. He had a bubbly attitude which was greatly needed by my husband as the patient, but especially for family members who are going through such a horrific deal. My husband received the best care from Jake that I ever could have imagined.
