Jamacia was the nurse circulating in the OR for OB/GYN surgeries.

The patient's consent included an exam under anesthesia before the procedure. The case involved multiple learners—residents and medical students—who all wanted to perform the exam under anesthesia. However, the learners had not spoken to the patient, and it was not well discussed that 4+ individuals would all perform the exam.

Jamaica advocated on behalf of the patient to protect her autonomy, dignity, and respect by ensuring that only 1-2 individuals performed the exam, rather than every person in the room.

The procedure was included on the consent, but basic human respect guided how many times an exam under anesthesia was performed and reframed how we should be speaking to the patient about what these procedures mean in the OR as part of learning.

Thank you for protecting patients and setting the example of what a safe culture of learning should be.

You rock!

Thank you, Jamaica, for your exceptional compassion, advocacy, and dedication to your patients. You truly make a difference.
