Jamee
Robinson
,
RN
Emergency Department
Prisma Health - Hillcrest Hospital
I watched Jamee's eyes fill up with joyful tears when she found out that the same patient was still alive and being discharged from the hospital a month later.
Jamee displays sheer love, compassion, and respect for patients, family members, and team members, no matter the situation.
Recently, a patient was brought to the ED by a family member. Just prior to getting to the ED entrance, the patient suffered a cardiac arrest. Jamee jumped into the car and started CPR while other team members retrieved a stretcher. She continued CPR while the patient was being wheeled into the resuscitation room. The team was able to resuscitate the patient and was transferred to the cath lab. I watched Jamee's eyes fill up with joyful tears when she found out that the same patient was still alive and being discharged from the hospital a month later. This is the nurse, who when thanked for her work and for being an inspiration, would shake her head no and says, "I don't need the thanks. That's not why I do it".
I watched Jamee volunteer to go in with the doctor to break the news to a patient that she was HIV positive; although this was not Jamee's patient, she showed so much compassion by staying in the room and comforting the patient after the doctor had left and told the patient that she would be on shift until 7 am the next morning and she could call if she wanted to talk.
One cold night last winter, we had a homeless man who was being fairly difficult for the staff and would not leave after being discharged. Jamee took off her Columbia jacket and gave it to him to wear. This shows the heart and willingness that she has to help anyone.
There are lots of stories and instances that show how caring and compassionate Jamee is. She exemplifies a total commitment to quality care, excellence, and professionalism. Her outstanding customer service, advocacy, and clinical expertise make her a nursing role model, mentor, and team member who inspires those around her to go the extra mile, fully engage in our patients' experience - whether good, bad, or ugly - and wake up every day, ready to go again.
