I was admitted to the Hospital on Friday, May 7, 2010. I was provided the best care by James Alexander, Staff Nurse III on the 9th Floor. James was very knowledgeable and took the time to explain everything that was happening to me. He never performed a procedure without explanation and he was very understanding regarding my pain and discomfort. As I could not have solid food and was in desperate want of a cup of hot tea, James tried very hard to get the cafeteria to send a cup up, but was not successful. Then he came in with a tea bag that he took out of his own locker and a cup of hot water that he heated up in his break room. This was his last tea bag and he was gracious enough to give it to me. I know this may not sound like much, but when you are a patient and in great discomfort, that cup of tea made me feel very special and cared for. He managed my pain so well and never let me suffer. He was instrumental in finding the doctor so that I could have solid food and then in getting an order to decrease pain meds to just Tylenol as I requested. He did not give up when the MD could not be found. He kept trying to get a hold of her and kept me informed of his attempts. He was very gracious with my family who were very protective of me when it came to medicine changes and other procedures and they were not always gentle with their questions. He never seemed annoyed when I pushed the call button, he made me feel glad to come in and check on me. WOW and THX!
