James is my preceptor for my senior practicum. James has exceeded the expectations of a role model.

Compassion- James provides care beyond the patient’s physical problem. This positive gesture solidifies the commitment (he has) to provide patient-centered care. For example, a patient told James about his car in the parking lot. James went out to find the car with no gas. He contacted social work to help get the patient the resources he needed for gas.

Evidence-based practice- James continues to be a lifelong learner. He shows me how to find resources on the internet/intranet to care for a hemodialysis port.

Leadership- James always allows me to practice autonomy within my scope. He uses an individualized learning approach instead of close supervision that enhances my learning. He gives honest feedback and continues to challenge me to improve my nursing skills. I am thankful for an amazing mentor. He has inspired me to always provide compassionate patient care. Thank you, James!
