We felt a sense of peace, not anxiety, when James was around. As our visit continued, James always checked in on me, and my husband, too. Which, for me, touched my heart.
My husband and I would like to nominate James for the DAISY Award because of the kindness, compassion, and empathy he extended to us during a recent ER visit. At the time, I was 7.5 weeks pregnant and experiencing some right sided abdominal pain. This was my 3rd pregnancy, with the previous 2 ending in a miscarriage. With our past miscarriages in the ER, we had some unfavorable experiences so I was anxious on going to the ER again with abdominal pain. Spoiler alert - This ER visit did not end in a miscarriage, and ended up healing our hearts from previous experiences! And my husband and I attribute that mostly to James.
James greeted us with a warm smile. He immediately showed sensitivity to our situation and extended empathy for what we were going through, as he had friends in our situation. He pulled up a chair and talked with us, making sure we were comfortable with every step of the care plan. He always spoke to us with a gentle and calm voice, which made a difference for us. It was the little things that James did that went a long way for us. As a nurse myself, I know the hustle and bustle of a shift, yet James made it seem like we were his only priority. It was my husband, who knows what the DAISY Award is, who said to me as we were walking out of the ER, "Now that's a DAISY Nurse!" To James - thank you for the kindness you showed to us. The world needs more nurses like you, and we're honored to have been cared for by you!
