James then went another extra mile and emailed people higher up in the CARTI company to see if the patient could be gifted the chair so she would have something she could actually sit in while at home since her infusions were about to be done.
James has been in the game for a while now; he is an outstanding nurse and provides so much knowledge in oncology to not only his patients but also us young new nurses. I first hand have had the pleasure of working directly with James and this one example of extraordinary, above and beyond care stuck out to me.
The patient was a rectal cancer patient who was unable to get comfortable in any chair or seat that she sat in and experienced severe pain every time, this was even the case when she was at home, not just here for infusions. However, James found a chair that worked for the patient and actually provided comfort for the patient after trial and error with several chairs in the infusion center. The patient was very thankful, however, James then went another extra mile and emailed people higher up in the CARTI company to see if the patient could be gifted the chair so she would have something she could actually sit in while at home since her infusions were about to be done. The conclusion came that CARTI was going to allow James and CARTI to gift this chair to the patient and she was going to get to take the chair home on the day of her last chemo treatment. If this does not exemplify an amazing, caring, compassionate nurse, then I do not know what does. Talk about going the extra mile.
