Nurses like James are very rare and give the nursing profession such a beautiful light.
In June, my grandmother sustained a massive stroke, which caused a significant brain bleed on the left side of her head. She was quickly transported to UCI Health - Los Alamitos, where the ED doctors and nurses quickly assessed, addressed, and stabilized her physical and emotional well-being. However, one nurse quickly stood out over the rest and that nurse was James.
I was the first member of my family to arrive to the ED and upon my arrival, James was there to quickly greet me and keep me up to date with my grandmother’s condition. He informed me of the measures taken in order to identify the issue causing my grandmother's distress and was extremely informative but also empathetic and nurturing, not just to my grandmother but to myself and other members of my family. As a nurse myself, you are trained and prepared to mentally tackle unpredictable and uncertain waters when caring for your patients. But nothing could have prepared me for what was to lie ahead emotionally, and although my interactions in the ED with James were brief (given the focus was on my grandmother), he ALWAYS made sure to go out of their way to update and keep our family in the loop of EVERYTHING. That big gesture can really make an impact on a very scared family. I felt so reassured knowing that my grandmother was in the right place and with the right healthcare providers.
You can tell James loves his job and has such a wonderful, positive, and uplifting energy. My grandmother was later transferred to CCU, and although she was no longer James' direct patient, in EVERY interaction I had with him, even in passing in the hall and cafeteria, James always asked about how my grandmother was doing.
Nurses like James are very rare and give the nursing profession such a beautiful light. I pray that the universe continues to give all of UCI Health - Los Alamitos medical professionals and the nurse who helped my grandmother the healing touch and power to make all things possible for all patients that come through its doors. Thank you, and thank you for the impact you have made on our family.
