James found out that Mother had passed away when he was going to see her and called me to express his sympathy to our family. He has also checked on us again since then.
My mother had been living with pancreatic cancer for more than two years, and she had had two strokes. When we arrived at the ER, James was our first contact. His kind, caring demeanor was such a comfort to my sister and me. He quickly got to work assessing Mother and performing his duties. He told us he was there for Mother and for us. He would be our advocate, our voice, and he would assist all of us in any way possible.

Mother had another stroke shortly after arriving, and James skillfully attended to her needs. He also took her hand and spoke to her softly and kindly, complimenting her fancy manicure. He treated her like a family member, not just another patient. He asked my sister and I if there was anything we needed and he prayed with us. He continued his compassionate care for the rest of his shift and talked to Mother and us before he left, saying he would see us tomorrow.

James was true to his word and came to see Mother in her room the next day and the day after. Each time, he would go to her bedside, hold her hand, and speak to her as a friend. I have never witnessed such a caring individual in any hospital before. He truly cares for the people in his care and sets the bar extremely high for other nurses and caregivers. James is the nurse that all others should strive to be. We will be forever grateful that God placed James in our lives that day.

Sadly, Mother passed away. James found out that Mother had passed away when he was going to see her and called me to express his sympathy to our family. He has also checked on us again since then. James is a wonderful nurse and a remarkable person. Brookwood Hospital is lucky to have someone of his caliber working there. We are forever grateful to him.
