March 2026 Honoree
James Rodriguez, BSN
Our family has been in the hospital with my father for the past six weeks, navigating a long and difficult recovery. During that time, we have encountered many members of the care team, but James R. from the West Tower stood out in a way that truly made a lasting impact on both my father and our entire family.
From the moment James began caring for my father, his compassion and attentiveness were clear. He took the time to thoroughly assess my dad from head to toe, carefully checking his wounds and making sure every aspect of his care was addressed.
What made the biggest difference, however, was the way he communicated. James explained everything clearly and patiently, ensuring that both my father and I understood what was happening and why. In a situation that often felt overwhelming and uncertain, his willingness to slow down and truly talk with us made a tremendous difference.
More than anything, James made my father feel seen and cared for as a person, not just as a patient. He treated him with dignity, kindness, and genuine concern for his comfort and well-being. As a family member who has spent weeks at the bedside advocating for my dad, it meant so much to finally feel like someone on the care team truly heard us and shared that same level of care.
After such a long hospital stay, experiences like this stand out. James is one of the few nurses who helped restore our faith in the healthcare system. His professionalism, compassion, and dedication reminded us how powerful nursing care can be when it comes from someone who truly cares about the people they serve.
We personally thanked James for the care he gave my father, but we also felt it was important for the hospital to know how meaningful his actions were to our family. James made a genuine difference in our experience during a very difficult time, and we believe he exemplifies the spirit of the DAISY Award through the extraordinary compassion he brings to his patients and their families.
