When I think about a heart-led leader, Jamie is the first person that comes to mind. She is an exceptional listener, empathetic to her staff, and always 100% approachable.  

When Jamie was first thinking about applying to become an assistant nurse manager, she scheduled an official meeting with her manager to go over the role, and to ask questions to make sure that she was making the right choice.  This type of behavior just shows that Jamie doesn’t do anything part-way.  When she decides to do something, she invests herself in the task at hand.  Jamie is the kind of leader who will reflect on interactions with her staff, peers, and leaders, ask for feedback, and then immediately course-correct if she feels like she could have done something different or better.

Some of the things her staff say about her:
•    When Jamie is here, she has a special way of getting the shift kicked off.  You can tell she puts thought into her huddle messages, and she always starts the shift with a positive message or something thought-provoking.  She always gets us started on the right foot. 
•    Jaime genuinely cares about the patients and the staff. She listens to the staff's ideas and tries to come up with solutions. Jaime is easy to talk to and very approachable. Because she was just a Pedi RN, she understands the staff side. When you get a manager who listens and tries to help, it's huge! She’s great at being a manager and a fun, happy person, too.

Shortly after becoming a leader, she was nominated to become a Caritas coach.  She graciously and eagerly accepted the challenge.  That’s how Jamie is with everything.  She seeks out opportunities, and is always working on developing herself in addition to the team that she leads.  She always has a smile on her face, a can do attitude and a positive spirit about her that is contagious.  You can’t help but smile in every interaction that you have with her.  She is a true DAISY Nurse Leader.
