I wanted to share with you some of the comments I received from a family member with regards to the outstanding job Jamie has done. We received an elderly patient via EMS with a very long medical history with several complications. When the patient arrived in the ED she was accompanied by her daughter (her primary care giver). Initially, the patient's daughter was rather abrupt and somewhat hostile with regards to her mother's needs. Jamie spoke with the daughter inquiring about her feelings - she asked about what was goin on, what could we do to help ease her fear/anxiety/anger. The patient's daughter was not upset wityh us at all--it was Christmas, her mother was ill and she was unable to manage at home. Jamie allowed her to vent her feelings and frustrations, and assured the daughter we were here to care for her mother. She reinforced we were here for whatever she needed and provided the daughter with food and something to drink. Jamie then took over the care of her mother allowing the daughter to relax. The daughter asked to speak with me personally (I was the charge nurse) to convey how happy she was with Jamie and her care and understanding of the entire situation.
Jamie is outstanding clinically, and provides excellent patient care in a caring and empathetic manner at all times. I firmly believe this patient's care experience could have become a very negative situation had it not been for Jamie taking the time to ease this family member's anxiety and fear. Jamie is truly an asset to our team and a credit to nursing.
