Jamie visited us in inpatient rehab on numerous occasions, even once on her day off. She brought our mom a shirt she had made for her with her nickname given to her in ICU printed on it.
Jamie provided exceptional care to our mother AND our family during the scariest 2 weeks of our lives. She went above and beyond in more ways than I could list. She advocated for my mother to doctors, making suggestions for her care plan. You could tell she was well respected, and the doctors valued her opinion as they implemented her suggestions in their notes/orders. She assisted the physical therapist daily with Mom’s 7 tubes, lines, cords, hoses, etc., to ensure Mom could participate in therapy in some capacity. She would check with the scheduler to ensure our nurse on the next shift was a good fit for our mom and family and would ease our nerves about shift change by giving us insight into their personality, always describing them perfectly.
One particular day, Jamie let us know she would be sitting with her other patient on and off that day as they would be dying and had no family at the bedside. Their family left them as they couldn’t handle watching their loved one die. Jamie said being with them wasn’t required but that she just couldn’t let a patient die alone! This in itself checks all the boxes for DAISY criteria!!!! I cannot imagine being in her shoes. What a blessing she is to families like us who were a 4North “success story” and to those families that are not so fortunate.

Jamie is a true gift to all those who are lucky enough to have her as their nurse, advocate, and friend. She is so deserving of this recognition.
