Jamie is an extraordinary nurse who is dedicated to the nursing profession. She recently took care of a patient on the step-down unit (SDU) who was very sick. The patient was admitted for hypotension, dehydration, abdominal pain, chronic pancreatitis, and an active smoker. There was no family or friends at the bedside. Jamie provided emotional support throughout her shift making sure that the patient was well taken care of. She escalated her concerns about the patient's condition and stayed with the patient throughout every intervention. Jamie built such a great rapport with the patient and the patient knew she was in great hands with Jamie as her nurse. Jamie and the patient had multiple conversations about her wanting to go downstairs to smoke but couldn't. Jamie was able to get the patient a nicotine patch. Jamie even shared her experience as a former smoker and told the patient what she did to help the cravings such as having hard candy like Jolly Ranchers. The patient stated how much she like Jolly Ranchers. That night, Jamie went to the store and bought Jolly Ranchers for the patient. The patient was shocked and knew that Jamie was a keeper. Jamie consistently demonstrated excellence and compassion. She continues to stand out as an outstanding role model and goes above and beyond for her patients and team.
