Jamie goes above and beyond for all our patients and families. She recently helped a mom who was alone in the hospital caring for her chronically ill child. This family has been admitted numerous times to DCH, feeling exhausted is just their baseline. Jamie, acknowledging the need for this mom to get a good night's rest, coordinated between the staff on our unit to help feed and love on the patient so that mom would know she was safe and cared for. The mom felt terrible and told Jamie that she felt like a bad mom having us care for her daughter. Jamie took the time to make this mom some tea, sit with her and explain that in no way was she a bad mom, in fact quite the opposite was true. She was a loving, dedicated, hard-working mom who just had trouble accepting that her adorable daughter was fussy and not feeling well. She was an excellent mom who needed help, help that we as nurses could give. We were able to give her three nights of great sleep and it made a world of difference. Recently, the patient and mom were admitted to our unit again, and the first question was "is Jamie working today?". This is just one example of the compassionate, family-centered care that Jamie gives all of her patients.
