Jamie Findlay, RN
Jamie cared for our son day and night.
During one of the nights of our stay, I had come back from a difficult social engagement where I was asked about what happened and explained about his attempted suicide in front of a group. Although I felt strong at the time when I got back to the hospital to tuck him in and say goodnight, I was exhausted.
When I arrived, I was hoping to see a familiar face, but there was a new nurse, and she was asking me questions about how we liked to care for him, etc. It was a lot, and I wasn’t coping well. Then I saw Jamie walking by outside, so I went over to the nurse’s desk to ask for the charge nurse to see if they would switch us to Jamie and ease my mind.
When the charge nurse came out, it was Jamie. I half laughed, half cried. She was so kind and caring and just held me while I cried in her arms and completely unloaded.
That nurse ended up being an amazing nurse for us, and I worked through my pain and discomfort. The way Jamie showed up with compassion, understanding, and comfort that night really made an impression on me.
She’s amazing, and I’ll never forget how she cared for not only my son, but for my entire family and me, during my son’s last days on earth.
