A patient was wanting to have papers signed for a Power of Attorney/Advance Directive. He was diagnosed with cancer one day previously. Everyone thought he wanted to go home and commit suicide but all he wanted was to fix his paperwork. The higher powers made him an EDO thinking he was suicidal. When Jamie came on shift, the patient talked to her and "she listened"; got case management involved who then called a notary to have all the paperwork signed and legalized that same day. Jamie then called the MAT team and had the Emergency Detention Order that was in place rescinded. The patient was not suicidal or crazy- just anxious and confused about his diagnosis and how to fill out his papers. So the MAT team came back out because of Jamie and reassessed the patient which led to the patient receiving physician orders to be admitted to a room/floor bed and ultimately to be discharged home; she also had all of the doctors onboard assessing this patient's case, coming to the patient's bedside, and explaining to him information regarding his diagnosis, treatments, and what to expect next. Jamie always goes above and beyond for her patients and has so much compassion and really exemplifies the ICARE values of being a wonderful, compassionate caring nurse/person/friend. Speaking as a nurse myself, I appreciate her. She listened to me, the patient, and followed through with perfect I Care values and the patient was very very grateful in the face of a devastating diagnosis. Oh, and before she left (during an ice storm), to go home, the patient had not eaten nor gotten his dinner tray. Jamie called several times to dietary, finally before she went home at 730pm, called again and got his tray and set it up before going home.
