My adult daughter said it best; "Mom, through all of this at least our family has Jamie as our security blanket. She's warm, inviting, and just makes everything better."
I am a new patient at the Cancer Center. On Friday, I was onsite to be disconnected from my 46-hour chemo treatment pump. Jamie was my nurse that day and had gotten everything set up for the disconnect and a follow up bag of fluids per my routine. This was only my second round of chemotherapy. Jamie noticed before I did that I was not feeling right; she immediately got me comfortable with blankets, pillows, etc. Her kindness, compassion, and display of care were very evident. I did not just see it, I FELT it! She was not just doing her job, she cared about ME! Immediately Jamie spoke with my doctor via phone and with the physician assistant on the floor and came up with a plan to help me with my side effects from the chemo treatment. She recognized right away that I was alone that day and made sure she was always near so that if I needed somebody or something, it was addressed. She also made sure that my daughter was notified and that I had a safe ride home knowing I could not drive myself, which is how I had gotten there that day. She was never even asked to do this, she just did it. She cared about ME!
Before leaving the floor that day, Jamie made sure that I had what I needed at home to get me through the weekend for my symptoms. She went over everything with both myself and my daughter. She made sure we understood the medications, their purpose, how to use them, and when. She offered to call and check on me the following Monday. Again, I FELT Jamie was not just doing her job, she truly cared about ME in that moment.
As a new patient to a scary diagnosis, a long road of treatments, side effects, and fear of the new and unknown ahead of me. I am thankful that I have a nurse like Jamie on my team! My adult daughter said it best; "Mom, through all of this at least our family has Jamie as our security blanket. She's warm, inviting, and just makes everything better." I have to say, I agree with her 100%. I would like to thank Jamie and also nominate her for the DAISY award; she is the perfect example of everything the award stands for!"
