My patient was admitted for pneumonia and was on intravenous antibiotics. He had some other social issues that presented a challenge to the team caring for him. Jamie was his nurse during the day. The patient talked with her and told her he has dogs and was not sure if they even have food and water because he left for the hospital in a hurry as he was having a hard time breathing. He lives by himself. He didn't have family or friends whom he could contact either to help him feed his animals. The patient trusted Jamie and gave her his home keys. Jamie bought dog food, took it for the dogs, put water in their container, and came back and gave the patient the keys. This is an act of kindness, and much more!
