Jamie Strickland, RN

Jamie was working overtime as a screener at the hospital (she is a nurse in the Urgent Care Center) when she noticed that a Veteran, sitting in the car, was unresponsive and not breathing. She and the other screeners jumped into action quickly. Jamie quickly assessed for a pulse, found none, and started CPR while the Veteran was sitting in the car. The rest of the Urgent Care staff was alerted and came out to over. Jamie found the Veteran’s wife and comforted her while resuscitation efforts were underway. She continued to console the Veteran’s wife after she was informed that he passed away. Jamie’s assessment skills and expertise as a nurse with compassion provided excellent bedside manner to the family during a very stressful event. This is the life of a nurse every day.
