November 2024 Honoree
Jamie Walker 2024, RN
After the long holiday weekend, I arrived at work to find we were entirely out (or down to our last bottle) of donor milk. Donor milk is breast milk we receive from the Indiana Milk Bank that has been collected, tested, and pasteurized. It is then distributed to hospitals like ours for the most vulnerable newborns to receive. Although it was my co-worker Jamie's day off, she said that she would drive over an hour to the Milk Bank in Indianapolis, with an hour's drive back, to obtain the milk we needed. Otherwise, the milk would have needed to be shipped and would not have arrived until the next day. By doing so, Jamie allowed four infants to continue to receive donor milk without interruption. It was incredibly dedicated behavior and deserves recognition from her leadership and colleagues. The very next day, she again came in on her day off to attend to urgent administrative tasks our boss needed to complete. She is an excellent nurse, lactation consultant, and co-worker who exhibits all the qualities of a DAISY Nurse.
Thank you, Jamie, for your exceptional compassion, advocacy, and dedication to your patients. You truly make a difference.
