At the end of October 2023 this family member’s father was brought in with stroke symptoms.  The family could not say enough about their father’s nurse. This was also the day of the power shut down at General Hospital and while there were plans in place, it was not a normal day in the ED.  The family said that this particular nurse was consistently professional.  She did not “honey/baby” her father like many healthcare professionals have done before.  She treated him with dignity, kindness, and respect as they worked quickly to evaluate him for a stroke.  The family said that she was helpful to not only her father but also to the entire family as she supported them through this difficult, uncertain time.  This family wanted to ensure this nurse was nominated for a DAISY Award to be recognized for the Extraordinary Nurse that she was. 

We don’t always know the difference we make in healthcare, and this RN was providing care as she does for every patient, but the impact on our family and no doubt many others is lasting.  I cannot be more thankful. It is our understanding that this RN was a schoolteacher prior, but anyone can see that nursing was truly her calling.
