We had a patient on our floor for greater than 1 month. Our nursing staff cared for her in all different levels of care - ICU, Med-Surg, and PCU. Jan was often her nurse and loved to care for her. Though the patient did not often respond, Jan always treated her with the utmost compassion. She always went the extra mile bathing her, brushing her hair, and even painting her nails. On Mother's Day, Jan got the patient dressed in her favorite pajamas and up to the chair for a special visit with her family. This was the first time they were able to see their mom in her normal clothes. There were happy tears!
