I would like to recognize Jana for her clinical skills, compassionate care, exemplary service and commitment to excellence. Here is an example of her commitment to patient-centered care.
This patient has been on our unit multiple times due to a terminal condition. The patient is very young and has a young child. The patient was not able to go home for Christmas due to the condition. And, it was suspected that this would probably be the patient's last Christmas. The patient was very upset that Christmas could be spent at home with family.
Jana went above and beyond by going out and getting this patient a Christmas tree with battery powered lights. She also got extra lights to put around the hospital room. The patient said that this meant the world to her. She was crying tears of joy when she saw the tree; she was speechless. She stated she wished she could thank Jana in some way. This small gesture meant a lot to the patient and to her family, during this very difficult time.
