Jana Kulpa is always ready to assist with any number of tasks, e.g., admits, IV starts, med passes, troubleshooting, policy questions. Jana does so without allowing anyone the indignity, of asking for help. She respectfully steps in, saying I’m going to help you with this and she does it! When Jana is in charge the unit runs smoothly, because she works at making it that way! I never feel ignored or left to drown when I have two admits, 3-4 patients with multiple antibiotics, 3-4 or more patients with CBG’s/insulin, several patients in pain and requiring frequent dosing, people vomiting, and stooling all night. Nope, Jana is not absent, unable to be found, or performing perfunctory tasks, rather, she is actively helping Period! Jana doesn’t play favorites either, she assists everyone equally. If she’s not helping me, she’s actively assisting someone else. When she’s done assisting that nurse she moves on to the next. It is apparent to me that she did not take the Charge Nurse position to massage her ego, or get out of patient care, she took the position to practice excellence in Nursing. Jana is a person you are lucky to have on this unit. She is the type of person that needs to be in charge.
