We were so lucky to have Janae as our day time nurse the first three days we were at Children's National for my son's appendicitis. She was efficient, helpful, and compassionate, but she was more than that. She knew just how to handle my son's moods, complaints, sarcasm, eye-rolling, etc. She was quick to help and empathetic, but she didn't let him get too whiny either. When they started to discharge him too early, she went to bat for us. She had a doctor come talk to us and stood up with her opinion in a very nice, but firm way. The doctors changed their minds and said my son could stay a little longer. As it turned out, it was a good thing he stayed. Later that night, he started throwing up and couldn't keep anything down for a long time. He needed to have fluids and medication through the IV again. If we had been elsewhere, my son would have gotten very dehydrated and we would probably have ended up back at the hospital. We stayed for 2½ more days after that initial discharge was sent and then cancelled. Thank you, Janae!

We are from out of town and we were so grateful to Janae for her extra consideration of our needs and circumstances. We could have had a very different outcome if it had not been for her willingness to advocate for my son. We can't thank her enough! We wish to thank Janae and think of her as our friend! It was a blessing to have her as our nurse.
