January 2026 Honoree
Janae Speak, BSN, RN
I’ve been a cancer patient for ten years. It has been very hard for me to carry this burden. I’ve recently had to go through a lot of trauma, move states, and return to Colorado and my original hospital. Janae Speak has been my nurse for three days and has been so kind and sweet. I was in so much pain that I was forgetful about what very simple things were, and I fell over on my bed and cried. She rubbed my back and let me cry and told me that I was not stupid, that I was fighting the worst disease for a decade and that I needed help doing things, and that it was okay. She was comforting and kind and helped me with my pain.
I’ve been here multiple times through the ten years of my diagnosis, but Janae's kindness gave me the strength that I needed to get through this day. She had other patients to care for, but she quietly asked other nurses who weren’t busy to help so that I didn’t have to be alone. I was so grateful for her help, kindness, and advice. I commend her just for that, and even more for everything else that she does for each patient that she interacts with. She is always kind, patient, and supportive of us.
