Jane has had a distinguished career as a nurse, serving as a role model, advocate, and transformational leader within the nursing profession.
The DAISY Lifetime Achievement Award was created to recognize those nurses who have devoted their life's work to the compassionate care of others, providing a way to recognize and honor nurses who leave a lasting legacy and who’ve shaped the history of an organization. During Jane’s 43 years of service at Wellstar West Georgia Medical Center, she has certainly accomplished this. Jane has demonstrated exemplary clinical practice, administrative, education, and research skills to distinguish herself in a variety of roles throughout her tenure. She has had an exemplary career, serving as a role model and advocate for nursing practice and the advancement of nursing as a profession within the field of Cardiology.
In Jane‘s current role as Director of the Department of Cardiovascular Medicine, she has led innovative efforts to enhance cardiac services. Jane has consistently demonstrated an unwavering commitment to nursing. Throughout her career, Jane has embodied what it truly means to be a nurse; she has demonstrated honesty, and integrity, and always kept the patient at the center of every decision or action. She is known for her compassion, clinical experience, and tireless efforts to advocate for improvements in cardiovascular care.
Jane is passionate about quality improvement efforts and has kept this focus throughout her career as a Member of the Heart of West Georgia Board and as the Director of Cardiovascular Services for over 20 years, working with physicians and other professionals to constantly strive for the highest level of achievement in patient clinical outcomes, as well as patient and family experience. She has also served on a number of facility-wide and system-level projects aimed at improving cardiovascular care. Jane was the leader of the department’s research effort with the C-Port Project that culminated in the provision of Interventional Cardiology services for our community, revolutionizing the care of cardiac patients in our community. She led the development of the electrophysiology program at West Georgia, collaboratively advancing the services provided in the cardiac catheterization lab to include complex procedures that could safely be done at West Georgia.
As cardiology services expanded, she helped to establish the Copeland Center for Cardiovascular Care, honoring her longtime colleague and friend, Dr. Robert Copeland. Throughout her tenure, the department and the organization have achieved an abundant list of designations and accolades, like the American Heart Association’s Gold Level STEMI Receiving Facility and accreditation through the Joint Commission as a Primary Heart Attack Care Center. Jane has a love for her community and demonstrates this by organizing and participating in various community outreach events.
Her work on the Heart Truth Luncheon, volunteerism at the Active Life Senior Center, and most recently, the Heart Strong Live Long health fair, as well as numerous other activities, enriched and impacted many lives through providing timely, relevant, and important education that ultimately help West Georgia to carry out its mission – enhancing the health and well-being of every person we serve. Aside from demonstrating her commitment to enhancing care for patients and the community, Jane may be best known as an advocate for continuing education and training, having begun her career as a nursing educator and striving to advance her knowledge by completing a degree as a Nurse Practitioner.
Furthermore, Jane has played an instrumental role in advancing the nursing profession by serving as a mentor and leader to dozens of nurses throughout their careers and ensuring that nurses have a voice in shaping cardiology care through supporting shared decision-making, collaborative problem-solving, and interprofessional teamwork. Jane has had a distinguished career as a nurse, serving as a role model, advocate, and transformational leader within the nursing profession. Her contributions have made a significant impact on our community, patient care, and nursing practice, and she’s left a lasting impression on the many healthcare professionals that have been blessed to work with her in her 43 years of service. We are proud to honor her with Wellstar West Georgia’s very first DAISY Lifetime Achievement Award and wish her all the best in her retirement!
