If anyone should go on a national "YES" tour, it should be Jane Cassidy, Nurse Manager of B5 for nearly 15 years. Why? Because if you ask a group of 100 nurses who they'd like to work with to pilot a best practice suggestion, accomplish an amazingly challenging situation with grace, or launch a new Jefferson initiative like patient-centered rounding, the vast majority would say Jane Cassidy. She is proud to state that she's a "get it done" type of nursing professional. Jane never says "no" to a request; she always finds a way to make it work. Jane runs the largest 45-bed med-surg nursing unit at Methodist. She is a self-described "old school nurse," who believes in the healing powers of getting to know each of her patients and personally discovering the uniqueness of what they respond to. Highly organized, Jane runs the unit with military precision. Do not, however, think that she treats her patients or nursing staff like a drill sergeant. She is one of the kindest, most down-to-Earth nurses there is. She can be found holding the hand of an elderly patient and offering her words of empathy and support, while she's silently assessing the room, equipment, whiteboard, and supplies for any needs. There are never enough verbs to describe her actions in one day: she plans, collaborates, initiates, embraces, laughs, listens and leads all in her daily schedule. Jane Cassidy is an outstanding nurse, mentor, leader, and person.
