Jane immediately reassured her and gave her updates, which really helped her calm down.
Yes, your nurses are remarkable! My wife had surgery and spent 13 nights, and I had surgery and spent two nights previously. We met many, many remarkable nurses and nursing assistants during both of those admissions. I am writing to nominate Jane Elmer, who is the Care Team Leader.
Jane provided exceptional care to both me and my wife during my hospitalization. My wife first met Jane when she arrived on the unit while I was still down in the PACU. My transfer up to the floor was delayed for several hours as there weren’t any beds available. My wife hadn’t been able to see me for several hours and was quite worried and anxious when she met Jane. Jane immediately reassured her and gave her updates, which really helped her calm down.
Jane cared for me for three days and was always incredibly kind, informative, encouraging, and down to earth. From the moment that I arrived at the unit, she began providing information we needed to know about my condition and caring for myself once discharged. She was always patient and took her time even when it was clear that there were other needs on the unit. She helped immensely when I was in pain and/or short of breath and gave me very helpful techniques for calming down. I had a Foley catheter placed in the PACU as I couldn’t void on my own post-surgery, and Jane was very helpful in helping me decide to go home with it as I had a similar experience with prior surgery and did not want to again face multiple catheterizations.
Finally, the most amazing thing Jane did was when I had a problem with a major bandage coming off 2 hours after discharge; she had my wife bring me back to the unit so she and the doctor could check my wound and re-bandage it. I spent my career working in healthcare and know how difficult it is to perform consistently at top form. Jane does it, and I so appreciate her. Thank you for the amazing work you do. You are so appreciated.
