Miss Jane is one of the best nurses I have the privilege to work with. Unfortunately most of the time, she has to play her ANM role and a floor nurse role; two tasks that can be challenging especially when we have difficult patient. I have witnessed so many nights how she goes above and beyond to please a difficult patient.
One night, we had a very demanding patient. As I worked the room for bedside shift report, she started to complain how uncomfortable her bed was. She claimed that the bed she had before from a previous unit was different. I know all the hospital beds are pretty much the same but to try to please her I went and changed her bed. She complained more about that new bed. I called Miss Jane since she was the charge nurse for the night.
Miss Jane calmed the patient down and changed her bed one more time to another bed in the unit. The patient was still not satisfied about that. She wanted the bed that she had in the previous unit. Even though, Miss Jane was doing double role as a floor nurse and charge nurse that night, she took her time to contact the other unit, and exchanged the bed so she could satisfy the patient.
We all know that there are not any differences between those hospital beds but the patient swears that this other unit bed was more comfortable. I admire Miss Jane's work as she was able to satisfy that patient. She deserves to be recognized for her great work.
