Jane is a veteran nurse. She's worked at Children's Hospital of Wisconsin for over 30 years and currently works in the Herma Heart Center (HHC). She inspires others with the quality of care she provides as well as the compassion and dedication she demonstrates to the patient population she serves. Jane sets the bar high. She is a repeat REACH recipient and has been an integral part of the HHC. Her excellence in practice was very evident this year as she received a glowing nomination for the DAISY award from a peer, as well as a patient family.
Jane's impact as the nurse clinician coordinator in the Adult Congenital Heart Disease program is evident daily. She is an essential part of this growing specialty, and has cared for numerous complex congenital heart disease patients and their families for many years. The family that nominated her for this award explained that throughout their daughter's two emergency open heart surgeries, Jane kept tabs on how things were going. She stopped by their room multiple times during their 18 day stay to ensure things were going as smoothly as possible. She also helped the family when they were faced with multiple challenges, including balancing hospital and home life, as well as care coordination among the many health care team members. Jane was a rock for the family to lean on when they were emotional; she offered thoughts, suggestions and clarification of what was going on. The family wrote, "We cannot thank Jane enough for always being there for us. She will always be considered a part of our family and not just a nurse!"
Jane is also a hard working team member. A recent hire who submitted Jane for the DAISY award wrote, "Jane has helped mentor and educate me in the most calming, supportive manner. She is always willing to stop what she is working on to answer my sometimes simple, obvious questions. Her collaboration and teamwork do not go unnoticed. She goes above and beyond to coordinate care for families, frequently travels for outreach clinics and is involved in many other areas of the Herma Heart Center. She is truly deserving of this award!"
