Jane is an outstanding medical/surgical RN who has voluntarily achieved and maintained her ONS Chemotherapy/Immunotherapy Provider Certification to facilitate the care and treatment of hospitalized patients requiring oncolytic systemic therapy. These patients are often newly diagnosed, facing recurring or metastatic disease, or are critically ill with multiple comorbidities. Jane not only delivers safe and effective medication treatment but also consistently establishes rapport and trust and delivers compassionate and supportive care to patients and families. Jane is always collaborative, flexible, and team-oriented. As an example of her outstanding commitment and patient relationships, she recently volunteered to return from vacation one day earlier than originally scheduled in order to ensure the timely delivery of a patient’s final cycle of high-dose methotrexate. Although this patient was not aware of Jane’s accommodation, at the time of hospital discharge, she recognized Jane for her compassionate and skilled nursing care over multiple hospitalizations while completing her initial treatment cycles. Jane has also demonstrated her professionalism and ongoing development in routinely tracking and self-evaluating her performance in meeting the needs of many complex patients. Jane demonstrates many of the best qualities of professional nursing, and I am honored to call her a valued colleague.
