In August 2018 a situation that started off as a routine colonoscopy turned for the worst and I ended up spending 4 days in the ICU at Augusta Health. The first 3 days were not memorable and I had to depend on my wife and daughters to fill in the blanks. But, one thing that I'm positively sure of is that Janeen Mohr saved my life. She, due to her many years of experience, used both "Old School" and modern technology in providing me the ultimate care. She was extremely knowledgeable and very kind and caring.
The instance that stands out in my family's mind is when I was under heavy sedation and developed an extremely high fever with a threat of developing pneumonia. When modern technology could not bring the temperature down, I was told that Janeen took off the suit that I was wearing meant to reduce my fever to bring my temperature down and simply threw a cold bucket of ice-filled water in my midsection and immediately the temperature dropped. She then, when it was time to perform my colonoscopy, assisted and held my hand through the whole procedure. She provided great council and comfort to both me and my family. She sincerely cared, she even came back on her day off to check on me.
I'm almost a year removed and living very well with heart failure and other issues. When I first got to ICU my heart function was 23 (which I was told people don't usually make it) my last checkup my heart function is at 61. I'm a walking miracle who understands that God gave me Janeen as a nurse and a true blessing for which I'm able to share her amazing story. Janeen Mohr is a living example of a true DAISY Nurse and should be so honored. Janeen will forever be my DAISY and I will tell the world that she exemplifies what the nursing profession is all about and more!
