One of our EVS staff broke down in tears after sharing in a meeting that her husband passed away three weeks ago. He had some challenges with equipment at home when he was discharged to hospice. However, she wanted to highlight the wonderful care he received from the PCU staff on 4th floor. The staff member said that towards the end of his life, staff took really good care of him (and her). One of the most meaningful gestures he received was that a staff member named Janelle gave him a stuffed toy cow. The EVS staff member said this gave him so much joy when he went home and had it at his bedside until he died. He named the cow “Splat”. The patient passed away and now Splat is sitting next to his urn. The EVS staff says she would go up to the 4th floor to tell you all personally but she is not ready right now.
