Although we care for pediatric hematology/oncology patients, at times, we do see patients from other specialties for site or line care. Janelle was seeing one of these patients on this particular day. She was able to think critically and remain calm, composed, and confident while caring for a patient outside of our usual population. Hi Janelle, on behalf of our heart transplant team, I just wanted to pass along a word of thanks for your work with our little toddler N this morning. By the time he got to St Mary’s, he was in full-blown septic shock, requiring three inotrope drips to get him stable enough to transfer out of the ED to the ICU. He’s doing better now, weaning things slowly and looking better. I am not one for hyperbole, but I can’t stress it enough – your care for him this morning, from you thinking quickly and offering to get him Cefepime and get blood cultures to having Gold Cross come and get him, likely saved his life. Thank you for your great communication, for discussing his case with me on the phone, for thinking fast, and for getting him help when needed. Grateful for amazing colleagues like you.
