Janet exemplifies the mission, vision, and shared values of The Miriam Hospital. Janet is always the first here in the morning, and the last to leave at night. She will stay way past her scheduled time to make sure the unit's needs are met. She makes sure all the patients, staff, and equipment are functioning to the best of its ability before she leaves. She wears many hats. She creates an environment that fosters nursing excellence through the promotion of lifelong learning. She constantly is a resource for nurses when they are unsure of a policy, practice, or handling something new. She answers questions thoroughly, finds evidence to support the questions, and will never give up until she finds an answer to your questions. She makes you feel supported and never makes you feel like the question isn't worth asking. Janet has amazing critical thinking skills and provides such great advice during difficult situations.
She has helped novice nurses grow into competent nurses. She is in charge of their preceptor programs and makes sure the new nurses have all of the resources they need. She meets with them on a weekly basis during her busy schedule and if needed even more. Janet constantly encourages professional development. She speaks to nurses on the floor about what their long-term goals are, and what she can do to help them succeed. She is supportive of nurses going back to school, becoming RN certified, and helping them with clinical advancement. She provides all of the resources you need at any time.
Janet is always busy, but you would never realize it because she does everything in a calm collective way and with a smile. She always provides peer feedback in a positive way. She is enthusiastic about new exciting changes/policies happening in the hospital. She is always looking for ways to improve equipment, patient satisfaction, and nurse satisfaction. She is such a leader. She encourages SBARP. She is a huge advocate for the no pass zone. She constantly answers call lights and makes sure the staff is participating in the program. She shows so much passion in doing it. She explains why it is important for both the staff and patient safety. She interacts with staff members, patients, and families in such a professional and kind way.
