She shows love, compassion, integrity, inclusion, grace, mercy, forgiveness, collaboration, and excellence. Janet includes everyone, no one is left out.
We have worked with Janet for about 8 years and have known her for more. Janet always shows compassion to our patients and their families. She goes above and beyond in her care to make sure they feel comfortable during their stay with us. Janet makes sure they get all the help and care they need, not just medications and routine care. She gets to know our patients on a personal level, their history, and their family. More times than we can remember she helps a patient to call family or calls for them so they can talk with their loved ones.
Janet also sits with patients who are at the end of their time here on earth so they are not alone. By doing this Janet is showing integrity, respect, and dignity that everyone who comes through our doors needs. During the pandemic, Janet has also helped our nursing staff learn the importance of compassion, integrity, inclusion, collaboration, which all leads to excellence. Janet not only Provides end-of-life care, but this is the same care she gives all the time. Her example compels our nursing staff to care for our patients as though they are our own families. We have personally witnessed Janet praying with our patients and their families. More times than we can count, Janet will stay and help beyond her shift to make sure our patients are cared for. She shows up ready to work with a smile on and always asks our staff how we are doing so she knows how to pray for us. Janet cares for our nursing staff and all our hospital staff the same as she does our patients. She shows love, compassion, integrity, inclusion, grace, mercy, forgiveness, collaboration, and excellence. Janet includes everyone, no one is left out. She also helps us learn what teamwork is all about. Teamwork for Janet includes the patient, their family, and all departments needing to care for our patients, plus their friends, and religious community.
Janet lives life as a servant leader, not expecting anything in return, but lives life in a way that shows Christ to the vulnerable. She is extraordinary in that she goes above and beyond to care for our patients and their families.
Janet loves to bake and always brings something not just for the staff, but most of all for our patients. This helps our patients feel at home and for our patients with memory loss, gives them a chance to have a good memory.
In the last year, Janet helped us as staff as we were caring for our patients with COVID-19. She helped advocate for our patients and their families so they could see each other. Also, Janet worked closely with our nursing staff to help us see why we need to spend time with our patients to know them on a personal level. This led to more than hourly rounding, instead, we were rounding every half hour or sooner, so we know our patients were cared for. Janet wanted our patients to not feel alone, to know we cared about them and their families. This has led to our patients feeling at home and that they feel more comfortable.
All it took was one nurse named Janet to teach us how to have compassion, integrity, inclusion, collaboration, so we were providing excellent care. This has also helped other departments to step up and help in ways that produce collaboration. Our patients love and respect Janet.
