While rounding recently, our patient indicated she was having multiple issues with her intravenous site, particularly after infusions. She now has fragile veins from her recent treatments. She was so touched by Janet who, she said, "sat with me during my infusions just to make sure my IV was alright". She knew how busy Janet was and still she made the time to sit with her. This is one of many examples of Janet's consistently caring and compassion nature.
I can anticipate when I round on her patients, there will always be a compliment on the kind, compassionate and professional care Janet provides to her patients and their families. Simply going above and beyond is her way. Both patients and families have called her "phenomenal, awesome, great, caring, compassionate, and attentive". She is what patients and families envision a nurse to be. Janet's peers ask, when sitting with her patients 1:1 "is there anyone you wish to recognize" almost always they will say Janet. New nurses will say she is consistently an "excellent role model", her peers often comment how much she loves her job and being with her patients. The nursing attendants will say she is "fair, calm, a leader and always so helpful".
Janet is the person on nights that will make the coffee for her team. She is the person you can depend on never to leave her team short or in a bind. She has come in early and on extra days to help support both her day and night time family. There has never been a time when I have walked by Janet that she has not been smiling, positive and upbeat. She is often the "bright spot" of many a morning huddle after a particularly busy night.
