Ms. Neely-Johnson began respectfully talking kindly to the veteran and encouraged him that life was worth living. She stayed on the phone with the veteran for 45 minutes with comforting and nurturing words of positive conversation.
In addition to performing her job at an exemplary level while performing World Class Service, RN Neeley-Johnson demonstrates an extraordinary commitment to the Hampton Veterans Administration Medical Center and daily demonstrates the values of Integrity, Commitment, Advocacy, Respect, and Excellence (ICARE). Recently, RN Neeley-Johnson was involved with a veteran on the phone who was transferred to her by the MSA who wanted to commit suicide. She answered the phone in her professional manner as usual and the patient began his story of how he was going to "End it all". Without any hesitation, she began respectfully talking kindly to the veteran and encouraged him that life was worth living. She stayed on the phone with the veteran for 45 minutes with comforting and nurturing words of positive conversation. Consequently, the veteran agreed not to harm himself or anyone else and contracted for safety. This veteran was the second patient that week she talked down from committing suicide!
Not only is she an unsung hero for the Hampton VA but a pillar in the community. She serves in the Chi Eta Phi Nursing Sorority as the Anti-Basileus (Vice President) for the past seven years, the Norfolk Emergency Shelter for the Homeless for three years, and raised $930 dollars for the ST. Jude Hospital 5K Run/Walk for cancer on October 3, 2020. Next week she is walking for the American Cancer Society for people with cancer who can't walk. Ms. Neeley-Johnson has been covering her department (BHIP-A) as well a the Buprenorphine Clinic. RN Neeley-Johnson is also covering the Injection Clinic as needed and all of this has been consistent since July. Not once has she complained, and every day comes to work with a servant's attitude.
