Janet fosters an inclusive workplace environment where diversity and individual differences are valued and leveraged to achieve the vision and mission of the organization. She co-leads the value analysis committee and the nurse leader’s safety committee.
Janet Patullo is an exemplary Nurse leader, the epitome of professionalism and resilience. Janet oversees the Infection Prevention Department, Sterile Processing, Cardiac Cath lab, and Endoscopy care unit. She has transformed all her areas into environments conducive to exemplary clinical practice, including house-wide infection prevention initiatives resulting in improved infection prevention outcomes and staff satisfaction. This garnered her two Nurses’ Day awards within the organization, Nursing Director of the Year 2023 and Partners in Care Award 2023 to her and her Central Supply Team. Janet was instrumental in the development of multiple performance improvement initiatives surrounding infection prevention that resulted in quality improvements and favorable outcomes over several years.

Her introduction of the CAUTI/CLBSI unit champions daily surveillance of indwelling foley catheters, which resulted in a decreased incidence of CAUTI/CLBSI throughout the organization. These results enhanced our NDNQI and Leapfrog results, propelling the organization to two consecutive Leapfrog A awards. Because of her quest for teamwork and collaboration, Janet was proactive in creating the first PCT Council within the organization, giving the PCTs a needed forum to be heard, celebrated, and acknowledged as vital members of the healthcare team. This council fosters a group of allied health personnel who feels valued and respected. She adeptly serves as a liaison on this PCT-led council and mentors our PCTs on all initiatives in support of their work alongside the Registered Nurse. She created and led a team of IP Nurses and educators on effective IP rounding and education for all staff. She has created and fostered an environment supportive of her team’s professional growth and development.

Her passion for nursing research is inherent, as evidenced by her partnership with the clinical education department in supporting Nursing students and nursing faculty on research initiatives house-wide during clinical rotations. In her quest to educate the next generation on the importance of nursing research and infection prevention, she has mentored student nurses into nursing research and IP initiatives prior to licensure to instill the value and importance as they transition to practice. In 2023 she was co-lead in a major performance improvement project within the Emergency Department on improving blood culture collection, resulting in favorable outcomes. This performance improvement project was presented house-wide during Nurses Week and awarded best PI project for 2023.

Her latest initiative includes the introduction of the Impella device in the cardiac cath lab to improve care in the area and the introduction of an AI initiative (Amplifier) to enhance education and improve care at the bedside related to infection prevention. Janet fosters an inclusive workplace environment where diversity and individual differences are valued and leveraged to achieve the vision and mission of the organization. She co-leads the value analysis committee and the nurse leader’s safety committee. She continuously supports innovation and organizational changes needed to improve effectiveness by initiating, sponsoring, and implementing improvement initiatives, as well as mentoring others to successfully manage organizational change.
